Is it that time of the year already?

I can imagine everyone is starting to panic as Christmas creeps closer and closer but don’t worry there is still loads of time left! If you start to worry about your lawn then we have a few tips for you to get your lawn ready for December.

Tip 1

Try your best to ensure that all autumn leaves are raked up and removed. The biggest issue with leaves is that it will stop sunlight from getting to your plants and essentially starving it. This can cause a high amount of damage to your lawn in a very short amount of time so if it isn’t too cold outside try to get rid of those leaves.

Tip 2

Carry out an aeration if you can. Winter is the perfect time to carry out either hollow tine or spiked aeration using a machine or it could be done on a small lawn with a garden fork. Just make sure the ground is not frozen or waterlogged as this can cause more damage than good.

Tip 3

Try to use Autumn and Winter fertilizer as this will help apply low nitrogen and high potassium to your plants which in turn will help strengthen their roots for the winter season.

Tip 4

Keep that moss under control, carry out an Iron based moss control treatment during the month which will suppress the moss and stop it chocking the grass from your lawn.

Tip 5

Limit frost damage, the best way for this is to not to walk on your lawn when it is frozen as this will bruise the plants where you stepped and will leave a yellow footprint sized patch on the lawn once it has thawed out.

Let’s hope it doesn’t get too cold! But hopefully, your lawn will be in the best shape possible with our tips.
