Mr C, Ringwood

Mr C, in Ringwood, Hampshire. We have been carrying out our annual lawn care programme on this lawn since 2017.  We started with a renovation of Scarification, Aeration & Over-seeding as it was in poor condition and the lawn has been improving ever since.

Lawntech ’s comments about this lawn

When we first looked at this New Forest lawn it was in extremely poor condition with a very high volume of weed and moss and not too much grass. It was also highly compacted with a thick layer of thatch.  It was one of those which we almost considered starting again with a new lawn rather than restoring it with our autumn renovation programme and annual lawn care programme, but we are glad we did as the results are very pleasing.

The first step was to reduce the weeds and moss, so that any new grass had a chance to grow without quite so much competition.  Don’t get us wrong, there is nothing wrong with having non-manicured weedy areas in your garden to attract Birds Bees and Wildlife, and this property has plenty of those areas, but this lawn was the main focal point in prime position of the garden surrounding a beautiful swimming pool and palm trees, so it deserved to look great.

Once the weeds and moss were dying back, we came in with our heavy duty large lawn renovation equipment to carry our multiple passes of scarification to remove the dead weeds moss and thatch, before aerating with a compact tractor mounted triple tine aerator and then seeding with a mixture of fescue and dwarf ryegrass with a direct drill over-seeder.  See our article about choosing the right seed for your lawn.  We tend to use our direct drill seeding equipment on lawns which are very poor to ensure the best results.  The seed is forced into the soil where it is protected, remains damp and has much better chance of germination than if it was broadcast onto the surface.

The results speak for themselves.
