Mr C from Salisbury

Since 2017 we have been carrying out our annual lawn care programme and mechanical renovations for Mr C, at this delightful thatched cottage in a suburb on the outskirts of Salisbury.

Lawntech’s comments about this lawn

Thank you, Mr C, for trusting us with your lawn, we are glad that your garden and lawn is looking great.  When we first visited this lawn in the summer of 2017 it had become very thatchy despite the regular mowing by Mr C.  When lawns like this have a layer of thick thatch it becomes hard to mow because the grass is so spongy and can easily appear yellow after a mow when the mower scalps into the thatch layer, this is a frustrating problem for keen lawn lovers.

This lawn was ready for a severe autumn renovation of scarifying, aeration and over-seeding to help it thrive and so that mowing would be easier in the future.  This  showcase lawn is a bit special because we photographed the process from start to finish and you will see it featured on various pages of this website where we demonstrate how effective lawn renovations can be.  There is a before and after slider on this page https://www.lawn-tech.co.uk/lawn-care-services/.  It is not a huge lawn but when we scarified we pulled out over 9 cubic metres of thatch which is enough to fill two skips.  To do this we carry out multiple passes with a heavy duty Sisis scarifier, mowing up the arising’s between each pass until we were satisfied that all of the surface thatch was removed.  Once completed the lawn looked extremely bare and sparse, this is because the thick layer of thatch had prevented light getting to the base of the sward which reduces root structure and density of healthy grass in the lawn.  Once scarified we carried out triple-tine aeration to ensure compaction was relieved and then we over-seeded and let nature germinate the seed into the autumn.  The results were excellent.
