What are the 6 steps of our SOS Total Lawn Makeover?
Step 1: Herbicide application
Approximately 4 weeks in advance of your scheduled makeover, we visit to kill off unwanted elements in your existing lawn. An application of herbicide deals with unwanted weeds, moss and weed grasses. This effectively prepares your lawn for its makeover to ensure that weeds and unwanted elements do not compete with the newly planted grass or seeds.
Step 2: Scarification
Lawn scarification is the process of mechanically removing thatch, moss and dead plant material from the surface of your lawn. This helps to improve lawn health by allowing better air, water, and nutrient penetration to the grass roots.
Step 3: Lawn Aeration
Aerating the soil involves using a machine to penetrate tines (or spikes) back and forth across the soil area. This process helps alleviate soil compaction, improve root growth, and enhance overall lawn health.
Step 4: Pre-Seed Fertiliser application
Once your lawn has been aerated, we use this opportunity to spread Pre-Seed Fertiliser into and around the holes in your soil. This provides the necessary nutrients for your new seed to establish strong root systems and aid its germination.
Step 5: Direct-Drill Overseeding
Direct drilling drives the seed below the surface of the soil, greatly enhancing its contact with the earth and guaranteeing germination. This is performed using either a pedestrian-powered machine, or a similar but larger unit which is compact-tractor-mounted, for bigger lawns. This improves the density and appearance of your lawn.
Step 6: Top Dressing
This is the final piece of our 6 step SOS Total Lawn Makeover. Top Dressing helps with the germination of new seed, can help improve soil quality, fills in gaps to give a smooth finish and improves surface drainage. Traditionally this would be a Sand and Loam mixture, but now we can offer an Organic, Soil Improving Top Dressing as an alternative.
