2020 has been such a unique year in so many ways, certainly one which has made it impossible to predict business fortunes across the board and around the world. We are fortunate in that our lawncare industry has historically proven itself to be resilient in times of global trauma, and we are both relieved and grateful that our clients have remained committed to the upkeep of their lawns throughout this turbulent year.

With so much of the country working from home and taking new opportunities to enjoy their gardens, we have been inundated with requests for lawn renovations this autumn. With schools having been closed for so long, children have been making the most of playing in the great outdoors and the extra use which our lawns have seen this spring and summer has inevitably led to compaction and greater wear and tear than a ‘normal’ year would generate. In fact, this record season saw our hard-working team performing renovations on over 138,000 square metres of lawn area. Our thanks go out both to our clients and the Lawntech team.

One of our clients’ lawns – Before, during and after renovation

Demand for our Lawn Renovation package of Scarification, Aeration and Over-seeding was so high that our brilliant technicians were toiling from dawn ’til dusk, to ensure that everyone’s lawns were treated before ground temperatures became too cool for the new seed to germinate. As this article was written in mid-November, those lawns are already recovering well before they go dormant for the winter.

Another of our clients’ lawns – Before and during renovation

Lawntech’s philosophy on Lawn Renovations is to hit the lawn harder than most, carrying out a much more thorough Scarification to remove more of the thatch which would have been choking the life out of the soil and the lawn. As a result we take a long term view of its recovery and re-establishment, looking towards the spring before the new growth shows its true colours. Whilst it is tempting to look for a speedier recovery, our experience shows that the Lawntech method yields a stronger, healthier, longer-lasting lawn than a quick-fix, superficial approach.

These images tell their own story, with each of the examples well on their way to recovery after receiving Lawntech’s TLC in the early autumn. We will revisit these lawns in the spring, to check on their condition and see how they have progressed.

Whilst we recommend Lawn Renovations should be carried out in the autumn for best results, lighter renovations can be undertaken in springtime for lawns in real need. For more information, please see the relevant pages on our website by clicking here.
