No Mow May is a national campaign that was created to encourage the population not to mow their lawns throughout the entire month of May in a bid to provide enough food for bees, butterflies, moths, beetles, and other pollinators. The campaign has been established for several years, and each year benefits from more press coverage and sound bites encouraging the nation to lock away their lawnmowers during May for your garden grass to grow freely, in the belief this act will make way for a species of plants to flower within the grasses to offer these pollinating insects a boost of nectar.

The purpose behind the project is a wildflower environmental concept in which Lawntech share an immense passion for promoting, but our experience shows that simply not mowing your lawn for a month is unlikely to create a sustainable environment for wildlife, especially when mowing will be resumed in June.  We have always been a company with an advocate for supporting wilder areas to accommodate the nation’s wildlife and whilst we fully appreciate the means for ‘No Mow May’, we want to ensure we take a long-term approach to providing nature’s source of nectar so that you can achieve a blend of both formal and wildflower areas in your garden all year round.

Provide a habitat to wildlife all year round with your very own Wildflower Meadow.

Promote permanent wilder areas in your garden

Through the eyes of the pollinator, establishing a habitat for wildlife to thrive on throughout May by allowing your well-cut lawn to grow free, is great for attracting these creatures to your garden but only for a short while. Before long, the mower will be put to work once again, and their enchanting newfound habitat will be cut back to basics.

Our solution to this is to dedicate space in your garden for wilder areas amongst your manicured lawn, to create the perfect combination and provide longer term benefits to our nation’s ecosystem. Spending time upon your formal lawn amidst a habitat that’s buzzing with wildlife is an opportunity for you to embrace nature from your garden and maintain its crucial balance.

Space dedicated to wildflower in your garden creates a beautiful and sustainable contrast to your formal lawn.

Wilder areas for smaller spaces

If you don’t have a large amount of space in your garden to home a whole meadow of wildflower, thoughtful planting of a plot of even only a small size may seem like a drop in the ocean, but every centimetre counts for Britain’s pollinators.

A border or wildflower bed in your garden is always a popular feature for any outdoor space to add a selection of native plants with bursts of colours attracting birds, butterflies, and bees. It’s key to remember the importance of carefully selecting native plants when planting with the aim in providing a source of pollen and nectar. If in doubt, look out for the RHS Perfect For Pollinators logo.

Wildflower pots and window boxes add a beautiful feature and burst of colour to your outside space.

For those with smaller space to offer outdoors, planters, pots and window boxes can add a wonderful feature to brighten up your patio and doorsteps working as mini magnets to our pollinators.

Our supply company, The Lawn Store, offer a selection of Wildflower seed with the ‘Colour Boost’ range being particularly popular. Visit their website here to discover more.

Lawntech working with wildlife

At Lawntech, we take a responsible and sustainable approach to lawn care to minimise our impact.

The UK is a nation with a growing demand for organic lawn care and our special fully organic treatment programme is 100% organic from natural resources. All the products in our programme are derived from natural, sustainable sources, revolving around refined slow-release poultry manure and bio stimulants which break down non-digested organic material in the sward and root zone of the lawn.

In addition to ticking all the environmental boxes, an Organic Lawn Care Programme brings significant benefits to lawns which suffer with poor soil conditions.

At Lawntech, we have always been an advocate for supporting wilder areas and we take a responsible and sustainable approach to lawn care to minimise our impact.
