Easter is already approaching, and if you’re hosting the family this good Friday, it’s time to start getting your garden ready for the Easter fun and celebrations.

Whether you’re heading to the garden centre for new plants and seeds to spruce up your outdoors or making your way to the supermarkets for hot cross buns and chocolatey deliciousness, don’t neglect your lawn this Easter and remember to give it that little TLC ahead of your egg hunt.

So, if you’re planning to enjoy your garden space this Easter, we have some spring top tips for a lawn that’s healthy and vibrant this season.

A manicured lawn will set the scene for this year’s Easter celebrations. Whether you’re seeing the family or hosting a egg hunt, don’t neglect your lawn this season.

Spring clean your lawn

Not only does winter bring dark, cold conditions, but materials such as twigs and leaves can accumulate, so give your lawn a post-winter tidy up and clear any objects which may be obstruct your mower.

Give your lawn a spring clean and tidy any leaves and twigs from winter.

Have your mower spring into action

When your grass starts its spring growth surge it will soon need mowing have your mower ready and stay ahead of the growth to keep your lawn neat and tidy. Change the oil, sharpen the blade, and check your mower is in good health for this growing season.

Repair any bare patches

As we head further into spring the soil temperatures enable strong growth, so we can think about repairing any bare patches in the lawn. Germination is more likely to be successful if done following aeration as it provides an ideal seed bed so this is a chance to add some air to your lawn too. You can aerate using a garden fork or professional aeration machine for a little repair this Easter.

Perform a light de-thatch

Too much thatch will cause a deterioration in the quality of your lawn so a light scarification with a spring tine rake or Scarifier will remove this unwanted layer and encourage fresh, more resilient grass growth.

Most lawns require a balanced nutrient programme to ensure a green healthy sward. As part of our annual lawn care programme we provide a balanced and sustainable nutrient diet for your lawn.

Give your lawn a spring feed

Give your lawn a much-deserved nutrient boost this Easter and apply a spring fertiliser for a green and healthy lawn. We recommend products which are relatively low in nitrogen and contain nutrients and organisms which work with the soil to unlock the full potential of your lawn.

Take control of weeds

Weeds are best treated as they emerge, and mid-April onwards is the optimum time for this. Practice safe and effective weed control, find out more on our website here.

Our damp fertile environment in the UK often creates the perfect conditions for new weed seeds to germinate. Mid-April onwards when they begin to emerge is the best time to treat them.

Trim those edges

For that extra tidy this Easter, trim lawn edges with a half moon tool while the soil is still soft.

Hide those eggs!

Time for the fun part! Have fun and get creative with an Easter egg hunt for all the family to enjoy. For some Easter treats and ideas take a look at BBC goodfood guide, there’s fun to be had for everyone!
