Along with Mother’s Day, the Easter weekend ranks as the busiest time of year for UK garden centres. With the weather looking set fair for this weekend, it looks like Easter 2021 will be no exception.
Whilst the garden centres will try to tempt you with all those seeds, plants and landscaping goodies, you don’t want to neglect your lawn. Lawns are our outdoor carpets, make-do football pitches and sometime mattresses, and now is the perfect time to make sure your lawn is good to go for 2021.
Spring is springing all over our lawns!
If, like many of our clients, you’re planning to get stuck in to your gardens over the long weekend, here are Lawntech’s Top Tips to help your lawn spring back to life this Easter…
- Check your Mower is healthy – is it serviced and has the blade been sharpened?
- Have a post-winter tidy up – remove twigs, leaves and any other objects that might disagree with your mower
- Repair any bare patches – April and into May is a good time as the soil starts to warm up
- Add some air – Aerate using a garden fork or professional aeration machine
- Perform a light de-thatch – Scarifying with a spring tine rake or Scarifier is a good idea
- Give it some food – apply an early season spring fertiliser
- Last chance for Moss Control – after April, conditions will become too warm for treatment
- Time for that First Mow – don’t remove more than a third of the height of the grass
- Weed Control – mid-April onwards is the optimum time, as they’re best treated while emerging
- Get edgy – trim lawn edges with a half moon tool while the soil is still soft
