Moss Treatment FAQs
Why do we treat Moss in our lawns?
Moss can be detrimental to the condition of the lawn because over time it can form a thick layer which will choke out the grass plants. Moss tends to form readily in thin or shady areas of the lawn where it has space to thrive. Lawns with a thick healthy grass sward are less affected as moss is unable to establish.
How effective is Moss treatment?
Moss cannot be defi nitively eradicated, but it can be effectively controlled provided the correct products are used at the right time of year. Weather conditions, such as prolonged heavy rain, may influence how long moss control is effective before retreatment is required.
What type of products do we use?
Lawntech uses a special blend of liquid iron with trace elements and wetting agents which, not only effectively controls moss, but hardens and conditions the grass plants throughout the winter. There are a few other systemic and bacterial products available for moss control which can give good results at certain times of the year.
When and how should Moss treatments be carried out?
Lawntech carries out moss treatments during the winter while conditions are cool and damp. One treatment during these months is not enough to give complete control and, therefore, we usually carry out one treatment between October and December and a second between January and March.
What to expect after Moss treatment
Moss will turn from a green colour to brown/black very soon after it is treated. The blackening will not be apparent for too long as the surrounding grasses fi ll in but the dead moss can be raked out if desired.
How soon can I mow after a Moss treatment?
We recommend mowing is not carried out for 2-3 days following treatment so that the treatment has a chance to be fully absorbed into the moss plant.
