Chafer Grub Control Aftercare Advice

Chafer Grubs are the larvae of the Chafer Beetle and are a common lawn pest across the UK. During the grub stage, the larvae spend most of their lives in the soil feasting on the roots of the grass during autumn and winter before emerging as grown beetles in the spring.

Damage to a lawn caused by Chafer Grubs

Though the small brown Chafer Beetle is harmless to your lawn and only survives for 2-3 weeks once matured, the Chafer Grubs can cause extensive damage to your lawn by eating through roots and weakening turf which can go unnoticed for weeks as all the damage is under the surface.

Control a Chafer Grub infestation in your lawn

Acelepryn is a pesticide that was approved in 2023 to control grubs in your lawn. It can only be applied by licensed and qualified professional lawn care operators. If you have recently had this grub control applied to your lawn to treat your Chafer Grub infestation, then any eggs recently laid by the Chafer Beetle will be vulnerable to this treatment.

Can I walk on my lawn after the grub control treatment has been applied?

We advise keeping off your lawn for a few hours as good practice to allow the treatment some time to dry.

Can my pets use the lawn after the grub control treatment has been applied?

The active ingredient in Acelepryn is safe for pets and humans. However, as good practice, the same advice goes for pets as it does for humans. Where possible, keep your pets off the lawn until the treatment has dried.

I often have birds on my lawn, is the treatment harmful to wildlife?

It is a targeted pesticide that is specific to grubs but will not affect birds or mammals. This product is harmful to bees so we will be taking precautions in the timing of application and inspection of the site to limit contamination of non-target species such as pollinators. We will leave at least a one metre barrier when spraying near water courses, we will not be treating wildflower turf, and we will not apply this product when weeds or plants in the turf are in flower. You will have been advised to mow your lawn prior to application to cut off any flowering heads that may be present in the lawn.

Can I mow my lawn after the grub control treatment has been applied?

Do not mow your lawn for 48 hours after treatment application. Do not collect the cuttings of your lawn for your first three mows. The cuttings should be left on the lawn to go into the soil and not taken away as this can lessen the effect of the treatment.

Should I water my lawn after the grub control treatment has been applied?

The grub control treatment should be lightly watered into the lawn to move the product from the leaf onto the soil. You will have been advised to have watered well prior to application and ensure good moisture levels on the day of application.

Why can’t I see any visible results?

There are no instant visible results for this treatment, but any eggs that have recently been laid by the Chafer Beetle should be impacted. This means the damage to your lawn should be significantly reduced and enables the potential for grass recovery in the coming months.
