Herbicide Treatment Aftercare Advice

Here in the UK, our damp fertile environment creates the perfect conditions for new weed seeds to germinate so it’s no surprise that left to Mother Nature, our lawn can quickly be overcome by weeds.

Applying herbicide treatment

At Lawntech, as part of our annual lawn care programme, we carry out weed control in the most environmentally friendly way.  By targeting weeds with one selective herbicide treatment per year and spot treatment thereafter if required, we are using the minimum amount of chemical possible so that our weed control efforts are practiced in an environmentally conscious and sustainable way.

Weeds compete with your grass for essential nutrients, water, and sunlight so not only will our herbicide treatment help to maintain a neat and well-groomed lawn, but this will also ensure your grass receives the resources it needs for a lush and healthy grass lawn.

Can I walk on my lawn after the herbicide treatment has been applied?

Keep off the lawn for as long as possible or until the next day to allow the treatment time to dry.

Can my dog go on the lawn after the herbicide treatment has been applied?

The same advice goes, keep your dog off the lawn for as long as possible or until the next day to allow the treatment time to dry. If your dog needs to use the lawn to toilet after a few hours of application, then we recommend wiping their paws before they enter the house to make sure the product doesn’t stain paws or flooring.

How long before grazing animals can use the lawn after the herbicide treatment has been applied?

Grazing animals must be kept off for three weeks, so the weeds become inedible.

Can I mow my lawn after the herbicide treatment has been applied?

Do not mow your lawn for 48 hours after the herbicide treatment has been applied.

Can I water my lawn after the herbicide treatment has been applied?

Do not water your lawn for 12 hours after application.

You advise not to water for 12 hours after the herbicide treatment has been applied, but it has rained after the treatment application, will it work?

The herbicide treatment does have a sticking element in it to adhere to the leaf. To help the treatment be rain resistant, we don’t want to add any additional water to that which mother nature may provide so we advise you not to water your lawn yourself until the treatment has dried. If there has been excessive rainfall, we can’t immediately reapply the treatment as this can scorch or cause damage to your lawn. The treatment may have worked, so we need to allow 2-3 weeks before we can return to top up if necessary.

How long will the herbicide treatment take to work?

The treatment needs to work through the root, so you won’t see an immediate reaction. The treatment can take up to 14 days so the weeds can look healthy for some time before they suddenly begin to go brown and curly as they die back.

There are weeds in the edges of my lawn, why have these not been treated?

We don’t spray the weeds in the edges of the lawn so that we avoid harming shrubs or any overhanging plants.

The herbicide treatment has been applied, but there are still weeds appearing in my lawn, why is this?

We can only treat the weeds that are in your lawn at that time. The herbicide treatment will not prevent new weeds from emerging. As part of our full annual lawn care programme we carry out one selective herbicide treatment per year, and during your next treatment visits the weeds will be spot-treated free of charge to keep on top of new weeds.

I have stubborn weeds in my lawn that don’t seem to respond to the herbicide treatment, what should I do?

Some weeds are more resistant than others and can only be knocked back and controlled, not eradicated. If you do have weeds proving stubborn, let us know and we can arrange a visit to use an alternative product that may help. Speedwell and Field Woodrush are particularly stubborn weeds that are difficult to control.

Will the herbicide treatment eradicate weed grass?

We often get calls about weed grasses such as Couch grass and Meadow grass. As weed grass is a grass type and not weeds, the herbicide treatment will not be effective in controlling these. If you are concerned about these grasses in your lawn, please talk with your technician who may recommend a plan to spray these and carry out a lawn renovation (scarification, aeration, and over-seeding) to tackle these.
