Mr & Mrs S of Shrewton

Lawntech have been servicing this lawn since August 2016.  The lawn has improved steadily thanks to our annual lawn care programme and regular mowing by Mrs S, particularly throughout the winter.

Lawntech’s comments about this lawn

This lawn is looking very good, especially considering the photo was taken in the middle of the winter.   Lawns can be challenging during the long, dark winter months due to lower sun and sometimes the amount of shade from hedges and trees blocking much-needed light.  The big problem we have in the UK is Moss, which is why our winter treatments are so important, even when the lawn is the last thing you want to be thinking about during December, January, and February.  This lawn has responded extremely well to our 5 visits per year, annual lawn care programme which includes organic based fertiliser, selective herbicide and autumn and winter moss control. They key thing is that we treat moss twice during the winter months, once before Christmas and a repeat treatment after, this usually is enough to give adequate control but if we see more moss appearing when we come to do our spring treatments, we always carry out a top-up for free.

Another thing we can do during the autumn to keep a lawn in good condition is to carry out mechanical aeration, when conditions allow, this relives compaction and allows air into the sward whilst assisting surface drainage.

In this case Mr and Mrs S have continued mowing throughout the winter when conditions have been appropriate, this is absolutely what we recommend because it prevents the grass from becoming too long restricting light into the base of the sward.  The other benefit of occasionally mowing during the winter is that the mower collects any leaves and debris that may have fallen on the lawn.
